CLEAR-FLOW: Evolving the industry with Electronic Flocculation

"In early 2023 the Berthoud Recreation Center started to see issues arise with our UV units not putting out the proper dosage for our activity pool. We worked closely with multiple contractors to find a solution to why the dosage was dropping on our pool. We then noticed over time that it was starting to affect our spa and then ultimately the lap pool. We got to the point where our activity pool UV wouldn’t run at all followed by the spa and at times the lap pool. We found that Berthoud’s water was filled with microscopic particles that even our D.E. filters wouldn’t filter out. These particles dropped the UTV (Ultraviolet Transmittance) of our water to a point the UV units wouldn’t run. To the naked eye the pool water was clear, but to the UV units it wasn’t clear enough. Being only two years old and up to date on all scheduled services we were at a loss on how to get the units running and how to fix our UTV levels.
CEM Sales and Services believed they had a solution and introduced us to Clear-Flow Systems. Clear-Flow explained to us that their system could fix our UVT levels which in turn would allow the UV’s to begin to work again. In good faith Clear-Flow provided a 90-day free trail period. They came in with CEM’s assistance and had their units installed on all three pools in less than two hours with minimal impact to the pump room and no impact to the operations of the pools. With in weeks of the units being installed we saw positive results. The UVT levels were getting better, and we were seeing some life in the UV units. After the 90-trial period we were thrilled at the outcome. We were seeing the UV working properly again, TDS levels had dropped significantly, and our chemical usage was down. The ripple effect of installing these units is hands down the best thing we could have done for the quality of our water. Not only do the UV work, but the staining around our returns has been almost eliminated and the clarity of the pool can’t be beat.
As the Town of Berthoud struggled to maintain the highest quality water for swimmers the fight against the microscopic particles seemed almost impossible to overcome. Clear-Flow saved the day and within a matter of weeks Berthoud was able to get back to that high level of quality water for our swimmers. It is because of this transformation of an already pleasurable place to swim that Berthoud can say we have the best water a swimming pool could have along with the safest."
